How much do I need to earn to call myself middle class in USA? Do I need to be in the 25 percent tax bracket?

I think that "middle class" is more of a social distinction than a financial one. If you live in a moderate sized home in decent condition, a safe neighborhood, and own a car (or two), chances are you fall under the umbrella of "middle class".

It also depends on where you live in the country. I, for example, live in the midwest. Both my husband and I have small to modest salaries, but when you combine the two, and consider our low cost of living, we can afford a nice house and we each have a car.

If we lived in NY or CA, however, our salaries wouldn't be sufficient to live on, and we'd likely be receiving government aid. That's one of the mysterious things about the US and the great diversity in the country.

Bottom line, you can "call yourself" middle class. You are what you make yourself, and no one can change that!

There is no mid class any more, it's work your @ ss off, give uncle sam his, the bills get theirs and you get to try and live off the rest!
