Should churches lose tax exempt status for giving refuge to lawbreakers?

The church in Chicago which hid Elvira Arrellano for a year receives many thousands of dollars from church members, on which it doesn't have to pay a dime of taxes because the USA has always exempted churches from paying taxes. If a church encourages the breaking of our nation's laws, shouldn't it lose its tax exemption?

Most definitely.

And to the poster above me...the "innocent persecuted mother" wasn't very innocent.

She came into this country illegally and was deported once.

Then she came into this country illegally a second time.

Then she stole someone's SSN (Identity Theft) to get a job in O'Hare Airport.

THEN she used her son as a shield against the authorities..

So tell me please...how is she innocent?
nope

There is a big difference between encouraging the breaking of laws and giving refuge to an innocent persecuted mother.

I plead the Blood of Jesus over you.

By now you should know that 31 year old single Mexican mami Elvira Arellano has been inside Aldalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago with her 7 year old son for three days now. She is not keeping her promise to a santo. she is keeping her promise to her child that she will stay with him and be a mami and confronting the U.S. government that seeks to deport her. Her son Saul was born in the United States and because of that is a U.S. citizen. Earlier this week Elvira was ordered to appear at an immigration office but instead she invoked an old school idea, taken by many activists before her, that churches are sanctuaries and went inside with her child. Elvira knows what's up. She's the President of United Latino Family, which lobbies for families that could be split by deportation. She is now one of those families.

No government has the right to rip families apart as Adolph Hitler and Mussolini did in the Nazi conquest.

I love is when the KKK manifest themselves on YA..
YES!
Yes. They should also lose tax-exempt status when they spout politics from the pulpit and tell their congregation whom to vote for.
I think churches should pay taxes. Period. I do not have a problem with them sheltering immigrants from laws that are racist. If most immigrants to this country were white, it would not be illegal.
No. The appropriate action is to charge the pastor with aiding and abetting. The parishoners will then have to bail him out. The state then keeps the bail money in lieu of taxes.
Churches offering Santuary has been going on since the Middle Ages.

Taxes should have nothing to do with it.
