*Loan,banking and credit>>>tax exempt

My 17 year old lives at home and works full time. Does he file "exempt" so I can still claim him on my taxes?

Can I claim him as a dependent and he file himself as well? Or can only one of us file? Thanks, Amy

If you provide over half of his support, you can claim him as a dependent, provided he is a US citizen or resident of US, Can., Mex.

When he files his taxes, if you claim him as a dependent, he cannot claim a personal exemption, and his standard deduction is limited.
Listen that is the LEAST of your problems. You should be worrying about the fact that your sun IS a LOOSER and a BUM. kick the fool out already, whats wrong with you worrying about your taxes. I know that at this point all hes good for is a taxe break, but come on hes your son.
No - he must pay taxes and claim 1 or 0... he will more than likely get a refund. you can claim head of household.
"Exempt" means exempt from withholding and he's not. You claim him and he also files himself. He pays a lot. Check www.irs.gov for further info.
Only one of you can claim him...if you claim him, he can't. You can claim him as long as you are providing for him. (There's a certain percent, like 50% or something)
If you claimed him on your taxes then he would owe alot of money to the IRS. It is better if he claimed himself if he is working full time.
Well amy, it depends on how much he'll make by the end of the year. If he makes less then 4,500. Then he wil be fine claiming exempt. He will not have to pay taxes anyways. Then you can claim him as a dependent. If he does, yes u can still claim him, but he will have to pay a little to the irs or he might even out. He will have to check a box that says: has been claimed on parents federal return. But since he is working full time the only credit u'll might get is the additonal child tax credit. and his exemption. If he was in school, you'll get the earn income credit, but he has to be in school at least part-time. Since he is 17, he doesn't qualitify for the child tax credit. So best thing to do is to c if you can get a case scenrio analyse at a tax office and c which on is best. Some tax office will be happy to do them....
