How can I file my taxes if I don't have my spouse's social security number? |
Hubby and I are separated in the first year of our marriage. I went to file my taxes, but it asks for his social security number. I don't know how to get it, and he won't give it to me because he thinks I'm going to use it to open accounts. you need your previous years return for filing it will have it on there or go to where taxes were done, it may be on file Source(s): you are married.. you don't know it? and there isn't one document with it on it??? hmmmmm File Single! Go down to the IRS and tell them you want to file "married but separate" and don't have his number. They should help you. Also, seems like your husband would need yours too for filing his taxes. Good luck. You do not have to put him on your taxes if you have been separated for more than 6 months..you just file as...married filing separate...i had to do this same thing this past year... See a lawyer. It may be that there is a way to force your husband to disclose his ssn number. You could also call the IRS and ask them what you should do. Their number should be in the phone book. I'm thinking that this is not the only time you are going to need his ssn. So take steps to get it now. Does he have yours? I wonder what damage he could do to your credit or if that is possible? As I said, see a lawyer. Fill in the line "married, filing separately"..covers ur ***! Let him worry about his end! |
