What reforms of the tax system are most urgent in Australia? |
What reforms of the tax system are most urgent in Australia? They need to keep raising the tax free threshold so people on low incomes don't get taxed too harshly. They also need to get rid of the double taxing on petrol - currently there is a 38 cents per litre petrol levy plus you pay 10% GST on the total Tax avoidance needs to be urgently addressed. Millionaires and billionaires can get away with paying little or no personal tax thanks to paying clever accountants (Kerry Packer famously did this all the time). If what they're doing is legal then the law should be changed so the richest members of society contribute their fair share. The top tax rate needs to be lowered or cut out altogether - 47 cents in the dollar is just too high. Most really wealthy people do not earn income in the regular pay-as-you-go way so this doesn't really affect them much anyway, and gives more incentive for ordinary workers to work harder and earn more money. Family trusts also need to be taxed, as this is a major method of tax avoidance. Filling out your tax return every year needs to be made simpler! I can never understand it!! You shouldn't have to pay for an accountant, it should be simple enough for Mr and Mrs Average Aussie to do themselves. Close the loopholes(family trusts, wine allowance, corporate tax) Get the Liberal government out of power they need to reform centerlink payments, as people who are on payments are ment to live below the povity line with what they are given and are unable to fully support themselves. as i am a full time uni studnet i can only work like 3 days a week and i work like 17 hours a week and all i get if i'm lucky is $1 a fortnight and i'm supposed to survive on less than $300 a week???? small business taxes need to be lowered. currently they are 30 percent and then when you decide to pay yourself you also pay income tax |
