I recently called the NC Dept of Revenue to make arrangements to pay taxes that were delinquent due to mistakes on my income tax form. The representative wanted me to give her my bank account information. I asked her if she could first send me the papers stating that an arrangement has been made for me to pay these taxes before I give out my bank info. She said that she needed my bank account information BEFORE she could send me the papers. My question: Is this information needed prior to me receiving the papers? I do not like giving out my bank account number because I have been "burned" before and the person went into my account and took out money and they were a "legit" representative with this agency. So if you have any knowledge of NC Dept of Revenue procedures for paying back taxes, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
You are required to supply that information so they will know were to look for assets if you default on the repayment. They will not make the arrangement without it. |
