OK Libs for the 27 millionth time, tax REVENUE has gone UP? |
OK Libs for the 27 millionth time, tax REVENUE has gone UP? It doesn't matter how much tax revenues go up. We are not sufficiently punishing those that are successful and create jobs. Tax revenue goes up EVERY single year because the economy always grows. The problem is, it has gone down as a percent of GDP, something that didn't happen before the Bush tax cuts. Bottom line, it hasn't kept up with new spending and now we are back to deficit territory. EDIT: I'm talking about statistics measuring revenues as a percent of GDP. Please read: http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=w061023&s... And right back down if Hillary gets elected. And we might note that spending on a few small issues such as an illegal war in a small country in Iraq has gone up as well. But let us not confuse the issue with the facts...... ~ Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it. Mark Twain Sort of. This is an example of liars figure and figures lie (whether republican or democrat spewing the numbers). In actual dollars, tax revenue has gone up. This is because every year, there are more wage earners, and the economy is growing (albeit slowly). The problem (whether republican or democrat) is this: The Iraq war is off budget (doesn't count when the politicians figure out the budget deficit, after all, it is an unexpected expense). However, when the government makes a budget (decides how much to spend), it does not need to figure out how to meet the spending with revenue. Thus, in the budget, we can decide to spend $100, but have tax revenues of only $50. This is where the budget deficit comes in. Over the short term, it doesn't matter. The problem is, over time, these budget deficits require borrowing to make-up the difference. These are obtained through bonds, etc. Currently the National Debt is approximately $8.91 TRILLION. Just paying interest on the debt is costing us almost 1/3 of every dollar we pay in taxes. This is not a republican or democrat problem. Excluding the last term of Clinton (who actually had a budget surplus), every president since before Nixon had a budget deficit. In cruel irony, the largest discretionary spenders (and increased spenders) were: Bush I, Reagan and Bush II. Now, if the budget doesn't balance, the National Debt gets worse. This is generally considered a bad thing. The WRONG thing to do is to decrease revenues. While it is true that the dollars brought in under George W is more than before the tax cuts, it is also true that, had the tax cuts NOT been implemented, the increased revenue would have been substantially greater. (Another example of figures lie and liers figure?). It is also true that, in a time of war, it is generally considered poor public policy to cut taxes, as MORE revenue is required to pay for the unexpected increase in military (off budget) expenditures. The $97 Billion just passed, and the appx. $100 Billion per year passed annually since 2001, are not included in the budget deficits nor in the projected deficits. So, for the 27 millionth time, the libs say back -- ok, but since the President proposes the budget and will not sign a budget he does not agree with, how come he is increasing the national debt annually with a budget deficit, when we gave him a budget that was actually in surplus? Now, lets be honest, the Dems have the reputation for tax-and-spend. They do not cut funding, but they at least try to pay for it. Worse than that, however, are the republicans (as opposed to true conservatives), who believe in "SPEND and BORROW", do not even try to pay for it. A true conservative would say: Lets STOP the spend, and PAY for what we budget. Lets get the National Debt down to manageable levels, so that we are not spending so much of our money on interest payments, and so we can have the freedom in government to pay for what we really need. And if we need less, we can spend less!' Instead, it is all about power. Republican Pork and Democratic Pork is all over the budget -- and it is still PORK. The question is, should we figure out ways to pay for the pork, or should we cut the pork out of the diet, and figure out a way to pay for the rest of the meal without "cooking the books." Federal Income Tax = Illegal The government does not own you, therefore they have no right to tax the labor you do for money. |
