You don't "get" a return, you FILE a return. You may or may not get a refund depending upon your tax liability and how much taxes were already paid in.

It shouldn't matter whether you do it yourself, use software like Tax Cut or Turbo Tax or take it to a tax pro.

It will definitely be cheapest to do it yourself. Using tax software would be next best. The most expensive way would be going to a tax preparer.

The vast majority of taxpayers can do it themselves, either manually or using inexpensive software. Only a small percentage of the population actually needs professional assistance. If you're a typical wage earner you can do it yourself easily enough.

use the software it is cheaper and will give you the same result. i paid 110 at hr block and got the same results on the program of my sisters that she paid 40 dollars for

H & R block is such a ripoff.
The people are trained for a few weeks and are no different from you and I.
Seems like the same software.
If you can read, you can do it.
you can also deduct the price of the software if you itemize.
The 'box' is soo user friendly you will kick yourself for every year you ever did go to H & R block.

If you just feel like you have to go to H & R block do not under ANY circumstances file for the rapid refund or loan anticipation refund or whatever they are calling it these days.
YOu will pay $300 to APPLY for the rapid refund and you owe that even if you dotn get it.
The 2 day promise is a myth....
If you file directly to the IRS mail or over the net) you can have the money in YOUR account within 1 month.
and you get ALL of it.

H&R are not accountants, just people with a few weeks of training. The return is reviewed by an accountant, without you there. These people ask your basic questions, hopefully, not forgetting any. My father went there once and swore he would never do that again. Took years to get that return corrected. H&R didn't know how to deal with retired military income. He is now very knowledgable about this income. He uses turbo tax and it prompts with the appropriate questions on this income.
Turbo Tax is a great software for beginners and experienced users alike. If everything is entered the same, you will get the same refund, but pay a lot less. If there is a significant difference, the tax preparers at H&R are probably taking some chances with deductions and credits. You probably still won't get more of a refund than the extra cost you will pay.
