Are the off-shore Indian software houses ripping off UK business, but worst the UK Tax payer? |
I get the impression that there is a huge disconnect between what is percieved as cheap IT and what is actually happening. How many 8 hour days are booked and billed off shore by one developer to 3-4 UK businesses and how many of these are UK gov contracts? The truth would be nice to know, but the UK Government wouldn't be able to handle the truth, as all they want is their cheap IT (But it's not cheap, is it) Well if its government computer systems we are talking about here, they've hardly got a good record of success, so that's a nail in the coffin of outsourcing credibility. The other one is the terrible experiences of dealing with Indian call centers. Granted most try hard but its mind numbing trying anything but the most basic requests. Probably knowing the people in that area. Would it not be poetic justice for the Industrial Revolution! New World Order ITs not the question of cheap or costly... but its the question of quality speed and accuracy of what Indian software professionals are delivering as compared to the rest of the world. Even UK or any Govt. is first trying to minimise its expenditure on new / advanced technologies. and simultaneously have to check its citizen's interests. So first they outsource their requirement to cheap countries and later make hue & cry for doing so.... Its all in the game... they're not ripping off uk businesses or tax payers. it's the contrary. indian software houses are cheaper so the government has to spend less money from taxes. local businesses benefit as well because when they are short of programmers on a big project, they work in collaboration with indian software developers and get cheaper labour with the same quality. Call centres were being 'outfielded' to Indian call centres because they were cheap to maintain. Answerers on these lines could not be understood, and UK companies were losing money from people just putting the phone down. I am glad to notice that call centres are now coming back to the Uk. This is nothing to do with race. If I want to do business with someone, and I cannot understand them, then I will go elsewhere. But the UK government are spending mine and your money, so it doesn't matter. They will carry on in their own tax-payer-lined nest. Because of the political flavour. |
